Why We Ride… Karla; @karlaw_bikes

Cycling Appreciation Society welcomes Karla to the ‘Why We Ride’ blog! Inspiring others to get on their bikes and experience the many benefits of cycling.

Read on for Karla’s short story & to prove that cycling is for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or ability! #WhyWeRide

Karla Williams is a Zwift community leader and one of the founders of Aeonian Race Team, a women's-only e-racing cycling team that has organized several popular stage races on Zwift. But why does she ride? What does cycling mean to her? And what advice would she give to beginners just starting out in the sport?

"I believe if you are already on a bike you are already a winner!"

For Karla, cycling is a way to find freedom and peace, to get the stress out and quiet the noise in her mind. "Riding has been a medicine of mine for years," she says. "It has been the best addiction ;)" Cycling has also enriched her life by introducing her to new friendships that will last forever. She's part of a women's e-racing community that celebrates, lifts, and empowers each other, and that has taught her many great things.

But cycling is more than just a social activity for Karla. It's a way to balance her life and keep her mental and physical health in check. "It has brought me up when I was down," she says. "I am a full fan of cycling - the best medicine!! :)" For her, cycling is a way to stay grounded, to find clarity, and to connect with her inner self.

Beginner Cyclists Advice…

So what advice would Karla give to someone just starting out in cycling? Her first tip is to enjoy it. "When this happens all clicks and the feeling is amazing," she says. But she also advises beginners to find a group or community that can offer tips, support, and guidance. Whether you're cycling indoors or outdoors, having a network of like-minded individuals can help you improve your skills and stay motivated.

Finally, Karla encourages beginners to focus on their own journey and celebrate every achievement, no matter how small or big. "I believe if you are already on a bike you are already a winner!" she says.

“…celebrate every single achievement whether it is small or big!”

In summary, cycling means different things to different people, but for Karla Williams, it's a way to find freedom, peace, and balance in her life. It's also a way to connect with a community of supportive women and celebrate every achievement along the way. Whether you're just starting out or you've been cycling for years, Karla's advice is to enjoy the ride, find your tribe, and always celebrate your progress.
